People travel every day, sometimes for short distances when they travel to work or school and sometimes for long distances when they travel on business or  holiday.

  1. What is the most suitable way of travelling for long distances?

When people travel for long distances, planes are the most comfortable way of travelling. They are also safe and fast. Fast trains and intercity trains also offer a comfortable and not very expensive travelling. They have a sleeping car and a dining car to make the journey more pleasant.

  1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of travelling by train/car/plane?

low cost/expensive, comfortable/uncomfortable, slow/fast, healthy/unhealthy, dangerous/safe, exciting/boring, polluting/less polluting

  1. How often do Slovaks travel?

The average Slovak family tries to go on holiday at least once a year.Some prefer winter holidays and go skiing to Slovak and Austrian ski resorts. The most frequent summer holiday destinations are Croatia, Italy, Spain, Egypt or Tunisia. Last minute or first moment offers have become extremely popular and people use them a lot. People sometimes prefer travelling on their own, sometimes they use services of a travel agency, which makes arrangements for them.

Travel agencies offer so called package holidays which cover the accommodation, food, health insurance, a guide and the travel costs. You buy a package holiday with a fixed price and for a certain term and everything is prepared for you.

  1. How can people arrange their holiday when they travel on their own?

They have to plan their journey carefully. They decide about the destination, then they have to book the accommodation on the Internet and study everything important before their departure. If they want, they can take their own food and manage all trips and their free time. Travelling on your own can lower your travel expenses, so the holiday can be quite cheap. Being in touch with home people gives you a big advantage. They can recommend you sightseeings worth visiting on one hand and warn you not to do specific things on the other hand.

  1. What happens at the airport?

At the airport passengers have to show their flight tickets and passports. Their luggage is weighed and they go through the customs. For air traffic sagety both people and luggage have to be checked and metal objects have to be detected. In the plane a steward or stewardess shows passengers their seats and gives them safety information. During the flight passengers are offered some meals, refreshments and drinks. After landing, passengers disembark and go to the arrivals hall where they wait for their luggage. After showing their passports and visas to immigration officer they can enjoy their stay.

  1. What is the most dangerous way of traveling and why?

Although some people can argue and disagree, cars are the most dangerous vehicles. The main reason is that the number of cars on the roads increases every year and a lot of drivers don´t respect the speed limits and alcohol restrictions.
